RTC plans buses for employees on night duty

It will offer a better alternative to taxis both in terms of security and transportation, says RTC official

APSRTC is planning to operate exclusive buses for the convenience of corporate company employees working in night shifts offering a better alternative to taxis both in terms of security and transportation, Greater Hyderabad zone authorities have recently conducted a meeting with the administrative staff of different IT companies at the Hitec city to initiate the project.
There are many corporate companies, including IT, BPO and finance in and around Madhapur. Majority of these companies function round-the-clock and hire cabs to transport their employees from their residence to work places.
‘Expensive'
By hiring cabs, companies usually spend about Rs.2,500 to Rs.3,000 per person as transportation costs. This is not only expensive for companies but it is also risky for employees, particularly women. There were few instances, when cab drivers have misbehaved with the women employees, says RTC Greater Hyderabad zone Executive Director A. Koteswara Rao.
In an effort to offer safe and cost-effective transportation alternative, there are plans to operate exclusive buses for these firms at nights. Generally, cabs make three to four trips to transport the employees but if buses are operated, many employees can reach their homes in a single trip, he points out.
IT firms representatives have asked the authorities to operate buses on tailor-made routes for the convenience of their employees and plans are now being made to suit their requirements. There are many JNNURM and air-conditioned buses in the fleet. Depending on affordability of the company, different kind of buses would be operated for the IT firms, says Mr. Rao.
Win-win situation
“We are ready to meet their requirements and it would be a win-win situation for both the private and public sector,” says Mr. Rao. This apart, APSRTC is planning to operate district buses bound to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other regions from Hitec city during weekends.
This is to make it convenient for employees to reach their respective hometowns right from workplaces.
Buses would start from Hitec city on Friday to different districts and in the return journey reach Hitec city directly. This would save lot of time for employees, besides making it easy for them, he adds.
